dorkfysh's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The heart sinks Last night the kid was put to work painting the boy's living room peach and lavender (could they BE any more gay? I think not). She enthusiastically jumped in and helped those that came to work while the rest of us watched the sales pitch for the shiny new "bunker buster". A few months ago me and two friends took our kids to see Jello Biafra rant and rave. The kids played on the floor and colored and read books, but they listened when things piqued their interest. I remember Jello talking about how the first Gulf War was a big infomercial for weapons. Our government needs to show them off every so often so they can sell them. This time it's also useful because our government will be trying to establish a permanent presence in the Middle East. Our military has been "protecting" the Kurds in northern Iraq for 12 years and now we have "targets" there. Bleah. Then R switched to American Idol where we watched them shamelessly kiss the ass of the singing marine. Someone mentioned that he will probably be deployed and they will have him sing from the front and will win the whole thing with an emotional countrified version of "God Bless America". It was hard to sleep last night. I kept listening to the silence and couldn't help but wonder how the people in Iraq are sleeping. I think about how frightened they must be and how every time they hear an explosion they must worry that someone they know and love is being killed. I hate this. Men who have no respect for human life or for freedom or justice have taken over this beautiful country of ours. It will be up to the American people to take it back. ~Howard Zinn 9:11 a.m. - March 20, 2003 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
