dorkfysh's Diaryland Diary

weird kid

I'm so happy for my little girl. She had the opening slot in the animation showing last night. The kids all did an amazing job. I love the NW Film Center and think I might take a class myself one of these days. The kid hooked up with a friend from her class who is her age, is interested in being a rock star, lives a few blocks away, and has a very very nice mom. I'm hoping they get together a lot over the summer.

The kid is having a hard time being the oldest kid in almost every social situation and she just can't find anyone at her school that doesn't think of her as the weird kid. Some people would make her dye her hair back to brown (or just get those awful highlights) and wear "normal" clothes and learn to keep her mouth shut so she would fit in. I won't do that. That's what my mom did to me and it took me forever to get out of that mindset. I know she meant well and wanted to make my life easier, but life is always easier when you are true to yourself and not some false image.

She's on the waiting list for the good school, so I'm going to have to figure out an alternative for next year. There is a co-op school that a friend visited and called chaos, but that actually might be good for the kid. This is such a crucial age and I really don't want an angry and bitter teenager in my house. I know I might not have much control over that, but I want to do everything in my power to avoid that.

Oh...and add Mother's Day to the list of holidays that suck when you are a poor single parent. We are just going to spend tomorrow at a free art fair and the kid will be forced to dance like a monkey and sing show tunes on command...and clean the cat box.

Yeah...that'll be fun.
